Everything you need to know about RetainQ, our features, pricing, and how to get started.
RetainQ is a free AI-powered customer retention platform that helps SaaS and subscription businesses reduce churn. When a customer clicks your cancel button, RetainQ presents a personalized retention flow - asking why they want to leave and offering targeted incentives like discounts, subscription pauses, or trial extensions. It includes AI-powered churn analysis, reusable offers, analytics, and a full REST API.
Yes, RetainQ is genuinely free to use. All core features are included - flow builders, offers library, AI churn intelligence, analytics, API access, and the MCP server. There are no hidden upgrade walls or paid tiers. The platform is funded by donations from users who find value in it. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but the core product will remain free.
Most users get their first retention flow live in under 10 minutes. Sign up, create a workspace, build a flow using the Simple 6-step wizard (or the Advanced drag-and-drop canvas), and embed the widget in your app with a single script tag. No engineering team required for the basic setup.
RetainQ offers two flow builders. The Simple Builder is a guided 6-step wizard - add cancellation reasons, map offers, customize design, and publish in 5 minutes. It is ideal for solo founders and marketing teams. The Advanced Builder is a full drag-and-drop canvas with 11 node types, conditional branching, and version history - designed for teams that need complex retention logic with multiple paths.
AI Churn Intelligence analyzes your last 60 cancellation sessions with one click and returns structured insights in 15-20 seconds. It identifies top churn drivers ranked by frequency, rates offer effectiveness, flags high-risk repeat cancellers, and provides 3 actionable recommendations. You can also use the Ask AI chat panel to ask follow-up questions about your churn data.
Add a single script tag to your site with your flow slug and a CSS selector for your cancel button. Set the src to your RetainQ app URL with /widget.js, add data-flow-slug with your flow's slug, and data-trigger with your cancel button's CSS selector (like #cancel-btn). The widget supports SPA routing via MutationObserver, opens as a modal overlay, and auto-initializes. You can also identify logged-in users by setting window.__RQ_USER__ with their email.
RetainQ supports five offer types: percentage discounts (e.g. 20% off), fixed amount discounts (e.g. $10 off), subscription pauses (e.g. pause for 1 month), trial extensions (e.g. 7 extra days), and custom offers with freeform text. All offers are managed in a reusable Offers Library - create once, use across multiple flows, and edit in one place to update everywhere.
Yes. RetainQ provides a full REST API at /api/v1/public/ with API key authentication (Bearer rq_live_xxx). It supports CRUD operations for flows, offers, customers, sessions, and opportunities. Rate limited at 120 requests per minute per API key. There is also a 32-tool MCP server (available as @retainq/mcp on npm) for AI assistants like Claude, Cursor, and Kiro.
RetainQ includes a real-time analytics dashboard with total sessions, retention rate, revenue saved, and opportunity counts. You get saved vs cancelled trend charts, cancellation reason breakdowns (donut chart), revenue saved monthly bars, and per-flow analytics. The Customers page shows individual risk scores (0-100%). The Feedback Log captures every session with search, filter, and CSV export.
RetainQ does not have direct payment processor integrations (Stripe, Chargebee, etc.) at this time. When a customer accepts a retention offer, RetainQ notifies you via email and webhook so you can apply the discount or pause in your billing system. We plan to add direct integrations in a future update.
RetainQ uses row-level security (RLS) on all database tables to ensure workspace-scoped data isolation. API keys are hashed with SHA-256 and shown only once at creation. Webhook endpoints are protected against SSRF attacks by blocking private IPs and cloud metadata endpoints. Authentication is protected with Google reCAPTCHA v3.
RetainQ supports three notification channels: email alerts via AWS SES when customers accept offers or cancel, HTTP webhooks that POST structured JSON to any URL you configure, and an in-app notification bell in the dashboard. You can toggle each notification type per event in Settings.
There are no hard limits on the number of flows or offers you can create. You can build as many retention flows as you need using both the Simple and Advanced builders. The Offers Library has no cap on entries. The current session limit is 100 lifetime sessions on the free tier, which we are actively working to increase as we scale.
Yes. RetainQ provides a 32-tool MCP (Model Context Protocol) server published as @retainq/mcp on npm. AI assistants like Claude, Cursor, and Kiro can create and manage flows, offers, customers, and opportunities, run AI churn analysis, and read feedback - all through natural language. Install the package and configure it with your API key.
